Some thoughts on the pick of Ryan.
It's a curious pick. Mitt Romney has been doing everything he could to stay away from the specifics of his economic plan even though his plan was the Ryan Budget. Now he sets himself up to defend the Ryan Budget and all the specifics. In a nutshell more tax cuts for the wealthy, gutting medicare, tax deductions that the middle class depend on and the elimination of Social Security (for the record, Ryan had his college education paid for with Social Security benefits). All the stuff that got us in this mess, and more. I could go on and on but that is another discussion. So he ties himself to Ryan and creates a ticket with two northerners. Not only two northerners but a Mormon and a Catholic to boot. No Protestants or Southerners which is very unusual. I wonder how that will play in the evangelical south. My only guess is that they are counting on souther evangelicals disgust for a Black person in the White House will outweigh their dislike for northerners and catholics. OK, I get that. There were other choices he had that would have made more sense though I am aware that the republican bench wasn't too deep. In essence he has given up his control of his election in order to pacify the far right of the party which was beginning to revolt, especially after that revelation by Romneys spokesperson that the woman who died in that commercial would have had health care if she lived in Massachusetts under the plan Romney passed. Wow, did heads exploded over that one.
The only reason that makes any sense to me is that the people that were donating the big money to his campaign read them the riot act and told him, because his campaign was dropping like a rock, they were going to cut off funds unless he took Ryan (their golden boy) into the campaign.
One other curiosity. Why would he make his announcement in the middle of the night and then have Ryan give his acceptance speech when half the country is still in bed? Strange to say the least. And why in front of a Battleship, when neither of them spent any time in military service though to be fair Romney did spend his Vietnam years doing missionary work in France.
