(49,032 posts)He's repeating the question as if it were a statement and the assertions "his" Generals made. The journalist posits a provocative premise and ask a pointed question to provoke a response that helps the viewers see both sides and form their own judgement.
The journalist is doing a proper job. Trump is doing propaganda. Watch for the technique.
This technique cements the premise in the minds of the base and its extension "it's not true". By repeating the question, particularly its premise and the Generals denial, it keeps it in the news.

(86 posts)So are most of Mueller's team but Trumps calls them the 12-19(take your pick) angry Democrat to fool his base. Given that he's now telling his flock he's going to keep their Social Security and Medicaid even when Republicans are doing the opposite, his fans will believe anything

(52,288 posts)My understanding is that he registered as a Democrat so he could vote in Washington, D.C. democratic promaries. D.C. is overwhelmingly democratic, so voting in the republican primary doesn't accomplish much.
