He must be in great shape.
Might this add to his appeal to a group that is causing the Republicans some trouble: women?

(33,497 posts)guy #1: Well Governor, we have to go with Ryan or Christie
Mittens: I really like Christie. He can be my attack dog
guy #2: Yeah, and Ryan has that budget and cuts to Medicare. We don't want to talk about that--NOW.
Mittens: Right, guess it's Christie.
guy# 1: Wait! we have a problem with women.
Mittens: Yeah, how do we fix that? pick Condi or Hutchinson?
guy #2: No! we got to appeal to them with our choice of VP. We got to show him shirtless and buff.
All Three: IT'S RYAN!!

(19,458 posts)Problem with Ryan is that someone can be good looking, but still ugly inside. His policies and beliefs override any work out he does. Plus his face looks like Eddie Munster.. total turn off.
Also, if a guy is seen as TOO much of a gym stud, it has the opposite effect. My friends and I usually consider guys that are too into working out, to be narcissistic and into themselves.

(53,410 posts)Vanity and self idolatry is a real turnoff. Paul Ryan is a peacock who relies on "charm".
Watching Romney make his way down from the ship he looked like a limping prissy fool who has no clue of how he looks. But Ryan was obviously conscious of every move he made and made sure his entrance was tv ready.

I do it too.
Well, I've been doing Asylum lately, and you get as much as you put in it.
Still, being in shape does not change douche baggery. A douche is a douche, no matter what shape.

(24 posts)Asylum though, huh? I've just finished month 1 of Insanity and it's about ready to kill me. I'm not sure if I'll have enough in the tank for a round of Asylum when I'm done!

(19,458 posts)Gawd.. is anyone that daft as to think that women will vote for Ryan/Romney, who have promised to destroy Planned Parenthood, Head Start, health care for low income women, Pell Grants, nutrition programs, because he works out?? If that was the case, McCain would have won with Palin, because she looked good in a dress.
Nope. this was a Norquist/Koch/Rove/Tea Bagger/Billionaire/Defense Contractor return on investment.

(13,071 posts)Quayle. The media routinely stated that the Bush Sr. ticket would appeal to women because Quayle was attractive.
Women were insulted then...and now.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)you know, term for a hot tomater.
I was very young. It never occurred to me that they thought Quayle would be sexy to women. He was attractive, but nerdy and dumb and very married and boring.
Ryan is not nerdy or dumb or boring. He is very married. And very physical. Kinda sexy w/those flat abs. We'll see him on the stump a lot without a jacket, I'm sure.

Boring....he's a wacko, but if there's one thing he's not, it's boring. You notice how everyone in the country is talking about him? That's because he's not boring.

(37,648 posts)There are infomercials on it, night & day. It's really hard. It's a super duper hard workout routine that is not that long, but strenuous. Based on the premise that you move quickly and do strenuous exercises, going from one part of the body to another, qhickly.
Lunges
then pushups
then stand up again and do fast jumping jacks
then down on the ground for more pushups
then up again and do weight lifting above your head
then down on the ground again and do ab crunches
then up again to do more fast jumping jacks
then down on the ground again and do situps
then up again to do.....
you get the idea. You have to be in good shape to do it.

(28,552 posts).... P90X is not a lean-mass gainer type of program. It is more along the lines of removing fat mass.
It will not put muscle on you like lifting weights will.
Just to be clear about which "in shape" we're talking about here

(10,103 posts)Trust me. Nor do I consider him particularly good looking. There used to be a trainer at the gym I went to for a while with a mug like that. People kept ditching him, and I clearly remember why. He was a demanding, demeaning, misogynist dick.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)that's why he wins repeatedly in a moderate district.
I think he's cute. And Romney's handsome. That has nothing to do with their ideology, which is sick. But just on appearances, they're both good looking, I think most would agree. It's an objective thing. But Obama is good looking, too. And as another poster mentioned, he sings, too! No reason to vote for him. But it's just, you know...cool.

(37,648 posts)But he doesn't get my heart to beating.
His politics are outstanding, and he is an exceptional person. And I get why others think he's cute. Tom Cruise never appealed to me in that way, either.
Matt Dillon in his heyday. Robert Straitharn when he was younger. Jake Gyllenhaal (however you spell his name). One of the main actors in the movie Savage...the one with the long eyelashes...he was too beautiful for words. The young actor in the old Romeo and Juliet.

(12,894 posts)Smug little bastards who think their shit doesn't stink reek arrogance and it's a BIG turnoff. Haven't you ever heard that someone who isn't so pretty becomes beautiful once you get to know them? Well, the same applies only change that to despise when it's someone cute who is a jerk. ( btw,Ryan isn't cute)
Women especially see through it and despise it.

(37,648 posts)the premise that you get in shape faster if you work each area of the body intensely, one after the other. He's got a name for it.
It sounded logical when I heard it described. Didn't work for you?
I've heard it's expensive. But I'm not in good enuf shape to do it, anyway.
DainBramaged
(39,191 posts)like the guy in te infomercial, and they will break before then. My friend was throwing them away (with the DVDs) so I grabbed them.
Been under the bed for a year. Weight training, running, and basic sit ups/push ups work better faster. Much faster.
The two guys who own the company, they are not Hans and Frans.
Pros
The workouts work. You can make pretty dramatic changes if you do these workoutsas prescribed.
The exercises are straight forward and doable for most people who have experience working out.
Most people report that Tony Horton (the instructor) is very motivating. For something this hard, it is great to have good motivator.
You dont need a lot of extra equipment or a spotter.
Again, if the program is done as prescribed and your goal is to lean and defined then this should do the job. It was hard to find a fitness trainer to say a bad word.
Cons
You still have to eat right to come close to the results you see on TV
This is big time commitment. It is an hour a day of exercise and the yoga program is a whopping 90 minutes.
Some of the moves may be too much for those who arent in good shape [however, they do show you modified moves]
You need a pull-up bar for a lot of the sessions, you make the call.
Some people report that Tony Horton can be a little annoying (but the majority like him)
They up sell you their nutritional supplements on the DVDs which is a little much. You dont need them.
