An interesting discussion on Raw Story presenting a few perspectives on the anonymous NYT Op Ed

from Common Dreams

"What’s more troubling: That the grotesque liar and right-wing narcissist Donald Trump was elected by the American people to be President of the United States in 2016? Or that there is now apparently a secret cabal of unelected right-wing officials inside his White House—at least according to a New York Times op-ed published Wednesday afternoon—that is actively undermining his presidency from within and their own discretion?

“I work for the president,” the op-ed writer, controversially provided anonymity by Times, confesses, “but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”

One of the more interesting comments in the article is from Glenn Greenwald, and only highlights what Greenwald's past has shown, anyone who expects confidentiality when confiding information to Greenwald, THEY SHOULDN'T

"In his assessment—in which he called the irony of the op-ed “glaring and massive” and also described the author as a “coward”—journalist Glenn Greenwald pointed out that while “Trump may be a threat” in his own right, “so is this covert coup” that seeks to impose its “own ideology with zero democratic accountability, mandate or transparency.”

When the intercept, a Greenwald publication, failed to shield Reality Winner as its confidential source, that was only one of several sources identity they compromised, and why whistle blowers should not expect any anonymity from anything associated with Greenwald.

Some of the points made in the Common Dreams piece though do represent an interesting dilemma. We have one extremist sociopathic administration effectively trying to "taken over" by a shadow government by another right wing group within that administration.

It's true what Ben Spielberg said that the enemy of your enemy is not always your friend.

in thwarting Trump's worst moves or what their motive might be. If they were truly patriots trying to do the best thing for the country, they would turn info over to someone who could actually do something. As it is, it seems that we have unknown and unelected people running the country with no accountability.

What could possibly go wrong?

that he or she is part of.

That the writer identifies as a group of right-wing operatives do not make this situation better
