(15,289 posts)Mike Pence did it with the pen in the Oval Office.
A little more seriously, Pence being a religious conservative would believe Trump is amoral, not just immoral.

(5,067 posts)Julius Caeser. After all of Pence's ass-kissing, it would be ironic if Pence gives his boss the shiv.

(43,247 posts)Consider also ... the GOP knows the only way to halt their slide in the polls is to ditch Trump. Period. They must shake things up or they are history in November.

(409 posts)If he waits too much longer to make a push then it will be too close to general election time, and they'll surely just lose the election and Pence's dream of being President will be all but dashed. However, if him or his people start pushing now for Trump's impeachment or resignation, it's possible Pence could be President before the 2020 election, and running top of the ticket.
It's also right before midterms. The more he can help the Democrats win big this November, by leaking this kind of damaging information about Trump, the more chances he has at 1) Trump being possibly impeached or at least more serious calls for his resignation.

(27,816 posts)... that the Good Lord has destined him to be POTUS. His Evangelical base believes that as well.
Pence would not jeopardize his I-put-my-trust-in-the-Lord position; it's a big part of what his followers expect of him.
Why try to take Trump down, when Trump is so successfully taking himself down? Why intervene in a scenario that is playing out to Pence's own advantage?
With Mueller tightening the noose around Trump's neck, and the resultant displays of The Dotard's insanity, why would Pence step in now? Those things are very much to his advantage.
Besides, any disruption right now could make Republican voters nervous - which could keep them home on election day. Why risk losing whatever midterm votes the GOP still has? Surely Pence wants as much support in congress as he can get, in anticipation of eventually being prez.
Pence involving himself at this point simply doesn't make any sense, and would be contrary to his own best interests.

(58,785 posts)Pence has immense self discipline and is waiting to be president. No doubt he does what he can to influence Trump within his adoring-acolyte posture, and he and his agents must have a very good idea of what's happening around the WH.
It seems possible his faction may have secretly encouraged this op ed to help bring this pot to the boil. But, imo, no way the VP would get personally involved with a bunch of incompetents in actively subverting and usurping the elected president's authority -- and actually admitting it. This isn't exactly the A team.
What this op ed claims to be doing is probably in its entirety highly illegal, even possibly rising to conspiracy against the United States (treason), not just a highly unethical, shockingly inadequate and inept response to the crisis it claims is happening, and ass-coveringly cowardly.
All just guessing about palace intrigue, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pence acted to protect the presidency against some of this usurpation even as he used it. At this point he's standing as usual at Trump's shoulder, supportively, while he waits. Or in a secret meeting discussing whether it's time.
