We should consider the possibility that this NYT Op-Ed is a signal to concerned conservative voters

For the midterms. As in, "no need to worry and vote for Democrats -- the 'adults' have got it all under control".

There are those on Twitter raising this suspicion and I think that there's something to it.

We're going to get you all the republican chit you expect like tax breaks, federalist judges, and deregulation BUT....we're going to keep him from blowing up the world.

Now that's a winning strategy.

They are such asshats.

is, "HOLY S**T! We need more checks on him and a Congress willing to quite possibly consider impeachment/removal!" At least, that's how Democrats should frame it. There aren't going to be any "White Knight" Republicans riding in to rescue the country and all Mueller can do is provide anybody interested with the information and tools to do it.

The GOP gave us the Trump malignancy by design. They are all in it together and all need to be held accountable for this debacle.

11. exactly what it is. republicans have been trying to keep the crazies under control since the '60s

their deal with the devil was:

"we rich right-wingers don't like to be called racists but we're racist enough to seek out and accept the votes of outright bigots in order to have power to cut our taxes and slash regulation so we can pollute and rip people off."

so how they're saying:

"i know you're all worried that the crazies have taken over now that donnie's president, but don't worry, we're still in charge really, we just let donnie think he's in charge."

"so go on, keep voting for republicans, we'll never let the crazies really take over."

how the expect people to believe this, well,... that's what fox news is for, i guess....

The message it sends is that we need people with spines, not chickens who shun their duties and hide behind anonymous op-eds.

"holy shit this is worse than we thought"

But in the end, it probably won't have much of an effect. Republicans are in full cognitive dissonance mode.

thought possible. This shit is very disturbing. We have no idea who is in charge. Apparently, congressional rethugs are OK with this shit as long as they can get their agenda passed.

Nearly 400 million Americans, not to mention billions around the world, are at the mercy of trump and his anonymous conservative "resisters."

I didn't think it was possible for my opinion of them to sink any lower, but this latest book and now oped has me completely and utterly disgusted.
