Talking Points: Why we need to stop Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation. (don't let the hearings get lost in the shuffle of other headline news!!!)
Here are some things you can say about why Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation threatens our rights.
He has dissented against the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.
His legal team stopped the Florida recount in 2000 to give George W. Bush the presidency.
He has argued that presidents should be above the law.
He struck down an environmental regulation for pollution crossing state boundaries.
He has argued against the existence of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
He has already tried to limit abortion access by ruling against the right of a pregnant 17-year-old held by immigration authorities to obtain an abortion.
He will swing the balance of the court against our constitutional right to access abortion in this country.
Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court poses a clear risk to our most fundamental rights. Tell your senators to STOP his confirmation.

(2,067 posts)Judge said opinions are just that, opinions, and not liking a nominees opinions isnt enough, technically, to justify a no vote.
Im not saying it needs to start now, but as a country we need to stop confirming judges based on whether we like their legs opinions (which seats based on who is in power) and start confirming based on qualifications. Period.
Merrick Garland was qualified, period. His opinions didnt matter.

(2,624 posts)I want to call Senators about this, but I know my own will be voting against confirmation. And I also know that Senators usually don't give AF about people who aren't their constituents.
Advice?
