Bob Woodward, if youre listening, I hope youre able to release the hundreds of hours of recordings you have of Trump's allies bashing him. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.@realBobWoodward

The Woodward book has already been refuted and discredited by General (Secretary of Defense) James Mattis and General (Chief of Staff) John Kelly. Their quotes were made up frauds, a con on the public. Likewise other stories and quotes. Woodward is a Dem operative? Notice timing?

(6,551 posts)Both know that if they don't deny their statements, they will be fired. And both are convinced that in this absurdly incompetent White House, they are the only ones between Trump and WW3.

(46 posts)These two men, three if we count Michael Flynn, all took an oath when they were commissioned. The oath was their pledge that they would uphold the U.S. Constitution, it wasn't to pledge dying support to any president.
In my eyes, all three are traitors to the U.S. and ultimately should be fired, receive a dishonorable discharge and stripped of any distinguished medals they've been awarded over their years of military service.

(6,551 posts)In my view, they see pledging support to the president is essential to keep their jobs so they can do everything they can to prevent Trump from violating the Constitution or to at least minimize the damage. In my view, this is particularly the case with Mattis.

(46 posts)That had me fooled but just for a little while. When John Kelly was installed as White House Chief of Staff, I breathed a little sigh of relief because I actually believed the assurances that he would be the stabilizer, the 'hall monitor' for Trump. The more we find out about what's happening out of public view inside the White House, it hasn't turned out to be the case at all.
John Kelly was supposed to keep Trump 'in check' and not step into any mine fields. That hasn't happened. John Kelly was supposed to make certain that Trump didn't cause WW3. But I think that John Kelly had his own agenda that he shared with Trump and that is the problem with illegal immigration. Kelly thought that if he remained long enough that he would get his own policies implemented such as building a wall between Mexico and nullifying the DACA agreement.
John Kelly is an 'Institutionalist', believing in set parameters of our social structure that aren't in line with tolerance for illegal immigrants. This is the reason why Trump tasked Kelly with shepherding his immigration proposals through Congress. John Kelly indicated that he's in lockstep with the president on "many issues", which I translate to immigration.
So no, I no longer believe that John Kelly is so altruistic that he will sacrifice his personal dignity and jeopardize his integrity and reputation just to save Trump from destroying our country. Each of them including Mattis has their own selfish agenda, and has nothing to do with helping Trump stay out of the black hole he's bringing us with him into.

(6,551 posts)Or something like that. HP, you are making my head spin!
(Well, not a complete disagreement. You're right about Kelly's true support for some of Trump's nonsense.)

Both of them have a list longer than Rhode Island of racism and bigotry and so on.
You are saying that even though they are despicable rightwing assholes, they dont want WW3, I agree.

(6,551 posts)I'm no expert on either man, but I do know that more often than not, those who rise to the rank of a multi-star general in the military have an exceptionally strong sense of duty to country.
I expect that both Mattis and Kelly have the same. IMHO, it's that sense of duty that keeps them in the White House.
But not for long, Eliot. It's reported today that Trump is actively looking for a replacement for Mattis.
And who knows what tweets will come tomorrow morning after Trump reads the NYT piece by an anonymous senior adviser? He most certainly will go ballistic.

BTW, thanks for talking me down a bit. I am so fucking angry, being a real patriot does that sometimes.

(17,988 posts)I am not happy with Woodward as a Republican lackey all these years, but even those he wrote books about say he checks facts.
Once those tapes are leaked little by little, trumps rages will increase to the point he will not be capable of much of anything. He has aleady been proved nutty as a squirrel.

(4,291 posts)Heres my recommendation: buy a life-like rubber snake and place it near your flower pots. You have to move it around daily, or theyll ignore it. But it worked like a charm when I was growing tomatoes in my garden. After raiding them daily last year, they stayed the hell away from the plots this year!
A word of caution: if you have a mailbox on or near your front porch, let your USPS letter-carrier know, so s/hell continue delivery and pick-up. Door-to-door sales/proceletizng visitors? Might be fun to watch...

(17,988 posts)They seem to be trying to find moisture. It is in the 90s and dry.
Never had this problem before.
On your tomatoes, cover your garden with black plastic after you till. Cut holes for the plants. Keeps out weeds, holds moisture. You just pick yout tomates.

(22,154 posts)for supposedly wanting everything bad for this country. After multiple books already out on the antics and doings of the republicans in the WH and also in Congress, everything that the republicans have accused us (democrats) of doing has exactly landed squarely on the republicans instead! Everything!
No one can convince any longer that this man in the WH is an idiot, is a danger to others around him and the country itself. His personnel are having to hide stuff from him, it's illegal to assassinate anyone but rump is ordering folks to do so, and that he has the mentality of a 5th or 6th grade child. Rump has the classic signs of the endgame of a STD, mentally unstable, mind is wandering, etc.
Where is Congress? This president is nuts and is going to get us into a war!!!!!!
