Most recently about his pain, which I felt was being inadequately addressed.
Right now, I guess I'm in the "anger" stage of grief.
I really think his death was accelerated by the crappy care he was getting.
He was bounced around from one crappy facility to another because Medicare doesn't cover a place to live if you are gravely ill and can't live at home.
I'm sick and fucking tired of those on the right who say we have the best medical care in the world.
It isn't fucking true unless you have MONEY and LOTS OF IT!
For 99% of us, we are one serious illness from living my friend's final days in a dismal, stinking, "care" facility where the call button is a joke and you can writhe in agony for hours with no relief.
I hate those who oppose socialized medicine with the heat of a million suns.
RIP, my friend.
I am glad that at least you are now pain free.

(1,089 posts)Lymphoma is a very complex disease and I have no doubt
that this horrible health care system contributed to his death.
I am sorry for your loss.

(40,216 posts)And you are right, we are far from having the best medical care in the world. In fact, we are pretty far down the list. On The World Health Organization list, The United States is 37th.
Losing a friend is very hard. Wishing you calm and peace.

(20,585 posts)and know what you mean. In a friend's last day on earth she was moved from home to hospital to another hospital - in this case because of Medicaid rules.

Be well and find some peace.

I hope your friend is finally resting in peace.

(6,556 posts)Losses of close people in our lives is hard to understand. In the past year I have lost my 94 year old mother and my closest brother who died of lung cancer. That has been hard. The grief process takes a lot out of you both physically and emotionally. Take good care of yourself because that is part of the healing process. So sorry you had to experience this, but I am sure you were a support for your friend.

(4 posts)Please accept my best wishes for your future. As for medical care, we should insure every citizen for recent treatment protocols which can be had at reasonable cost. Almost every other industrial nation does.

(11,267 posts)we'll keep fighting for universal, quality health care for everyone.
as someone who has been fighting lymphoma myself this year, and was lucky enough to get what I think was good care, it's important to me that everyone has a chance to beat this disease.

(243 posts)One of my closest friends just died because she had to wait until she was 65 and could get Medicare so she could address the GIANT FUCKING TUMOR growing in her breast. Once it reached her liver, it did her in. Republicans SUCK!!!
