Hundreds of thousands of documents were dumped/shredded by Idiot without him exerting executive privilege. I say the whole process was clearly tainted.

Would make him look a little above the fray.
Of course, he isnt and wont.
Total farce, as always with the modern Trumpublican Party.

(26,757 posts)Better put... sure... an impeachable offense is anything that the majority of the House says is an impeachable offense. But then you have to get 2/3 of the Senate to agree to remove him.
Obviously, that means that you need bunches of Republicans to agree... and if they could get even a couple to agree that the hearings are a "farce"... there wouldn't be any hearings.

However, he's not going to be impeached because of the process by which he is confirmed, which while unfair, is perfectly legal.

(52,317 posts)if we had 67 senators, that is, something not in the cards for a good while, unfortunately.
congress can largely determine what is a "high crime and misdemeanor" and getting to office through illegitimate means, insufficient candor, etc. could certainly be argued qualifies as a high crime and misdemeanor.
in practice, don't hold your breath.

(58,785 posts)whether Kavanaugh lied to congress at a hearing in 2009. He denied being involved in the Bush II admin's planning right after 9/11 for illegal torture, secret overseas prisons, kidnapping of foreign citizens, etc.
After confirmation the...WaPo I think reported evidence that he was involved in one of the meetings (nothing to rule out others). A couple of our senators who are there in today's hearing requested the DoJ investigate, but the DoJ decided there was not enough evidence to proceed. Alberto Gonzales, the same one who formulated a supposed legal basis for torture, was the AG at the time.
Kavanaugh will undoubtedly be asked about that and many other things in this hearing. If he lied then or lies now, he could theoretically be removed for that.
Of course, removing a sitting justice by congress would not be easy, even for cause. It could only happen at a time when the electorate, in their wisdom, put enough Democrats and good Republicans in office to do it, and today's Republican running dogs know that.

(115,836 posts)Only one Supreme Court justice has ever been impeached, and he was acquitted by the Senate. That was Samuel Chase, in 1805. Some federal court judges have been removed from office over the years but in all of those cases they had been personally involved in serious crimes, usually bribery or fraud. If the process is tainted because the WH won't release those documents, that's not Kavanaugh's crime.
