General Discussion

of time. Multiple multiple grounds have been apparent almost since the inauguration. Discussion time is better spent on how to bring enough pressure on Senators and those who own them to fulfill their Constitutional obligation and impeach the maniac in the Oval Office.

(7,113 posts)After the new Dems elected in November take office in January, the House will have enough votes to impeach.
But the question no one ever asks the biggest impeachment supporters -- not Tom Steyer, not Maxine Waters -- is how do they plan to get the 67 votes in the Senate needed to convict on an impeachment if they actually want to throw Trump out of office?
Someone needs to ask them to identify the Senate GOPers most likely to flip and vote for conviction, especially if Trump's approval rating spikes the way Bill Clinton's did amid impeachment proceedings.
No doubt, Senate GOPers would be more likely to persuade on the basis of their own personal interests rather than any sense of duty and patriotism. And the most persuadable would be those GOP senators up for reelection in 2020.
No two ways about it: The biggest obstacle in getting a conviction on impeachment is the GOP senators' blind loyalty to their POTUS.

(13,340 posts)For Senate Republicans to realize they are on the wrong side of history, there isn't much point to the impeachment talk.
Maybe I'm just Debbie Downer here, but I cannot see the Republicans having the integrity to convict Trump, regardless of what Mueller's report says.
Our victory must come at the ballot box. The GOP must be completely, and utterly repudiated, and Trump must be humiliated in 2020. And then his ass need to be thrown in jail, along with Junior, Kush, and anyone else shown to be a criminal in Mueller's report.
