(49,040 posts)8. I think the OPost is for the OPoster's vanity, it seems.
Writers who care about their readers, or want to communicate information or turn them on to a new idea, take care to be clear and include sufficient context that their readers don't have to puzzle things out.
I know that the Republican candidate for the Governor of Florida said "don't monkey up" with reference to the African American Democratic candidate.

It's a quote from mean girls.
The Florida GOP trying to pretend "monkey it up" was a thing reminded me of it.
MaryMagdaline
(6,856 posts)6. It's a Mean Girls reference.
Sorry its not from The Godfather. We have other cultural references.

(49,040 posts)9. What is "Mean Girls"? Is it some TV show?

(6,856 posts)13. It's an American cultural classic
Google it
John Fante
(3,479 posts)10. Gretchen (a character from the 2004 film "Mean Girls") uses
the phrase "fetch" constantly, as if trying to get it to catch on at her school. One of her friends grows tired of it and calls her out. Hence "stop trying to make 'fetch' happen."
I thought it was a funny reference.
