Any old blue just wont do: Insurgents seek to topple more Democratic veterans in September primariesBy David Weigel

SOMERVILLE, Mass. Ayanna Pressleys rationale for unseating a 20-year incumbent was simple, starting with what Rep. Michael E. Capuano has done right. Yes, the Democratic congressman had voted the right way nearly all of the time. Sure, hed resisted President Trump.
A progressive voting record in the most progressive seat in the country is not enough, Pressley said recently at a small canvass launch that quickly took over most of a coffee shop. This district deserves bold, activist leadership! The only way we can beat the hate coming out from Washington is not with a vote its with a movement!
Pressley, a 44-year-old Boston City Council member with a long political résumé, was long expected to make a play for higher office. Her race against Capuano, a well-liked liberal and leading antiwar voice in his party, has created an expensive and divisive race in a seat Republicans have not contested since 1998.
Some people want to snap their fingers and get whatever they want, Capuano said in an interview after stopping by a block party organized by mothers of gun violence victims. So do I. But I havent had that experience any place in my life.

(23,155 posts)Why doesn't she take on a Repug, show what she's fighting against rather than making good people have to spend money to defeat her? Don't approve, not one little bit.

(9,527 posts)which one do you propose she run against? I don't get this hatred of primary challengers.

(8,173 posts)have run there or contested a much more conservative Dem - Stephen Lynch.
It sucks that she is challenging Capuano and I hope she loses (though I like her and if she was running in Niki's district she'd likely get my vote).

(108,994 posts)if the incumbent has a solid record, in the most important election in any of our lives.
That's a really strong word and not at all part of what i said. I don't approve doesn't mean anything stronger than that. She has many many choices and this was what she did. She could have run for state government where she could make a difference as just one example.

(8,346 posts)Since Senator Warren and Congressman Capuano seem to agree on almost everything, maybe she should try a state wide offfice next. Or maybe she could have chosen to run for governor against a republican. Nope, just decided to take on a true progressive for her own personal gain and against the best interest of the state as Senority does matter in the House.
