(50,562 posts)...but my brother-in-law, who got sent home three days after he got to Reception Station because they found out he can't see if he closes one eye, like you do to shoot, spent more time in the military than the entire Trump family.
The Queen, didn't she do the whole of WWII in uniform?

(90,793 posts)My understanding is that she joined the military over her father's objections. She learned to drive and maintain vehicles like trucks and jeeps. (Her sister was 4 years younger, so still a schoolgirl when the war ended in Europe.)
Although the teenaged future Queen was never going to be destined for the battles on the Continent, the royal family didn't have to travel far to find the War, as London was heavily bombed in the Blitz.

Later he (and his wife) tried to move back to Bavaria in 1904 but they ultimately kicked him (and his wife) out in 1905. Why? B/c at the time the penalty for emigrating for the purpose of draft-dodging was loss of German citizenship. He was ordered to leave by royal decree, whereafter he returned to NY.

(11,109 posts)it's hardly a requirement. If a candidate is smart enough to understand the sacrifice made by military members - especially if sent into combat - and doesn't see the military as simply a tool or weapon (think Obama), that's good enough.
