Romney chose Ryan because (updated)

1) Mitt desperately needs the RW and the RW wouldn't take no for an answer.
2) Mitt, after raising the white flag, desperately needed to fill in the policy gap. Ryan has a budget.
Here's Krugman on Ryan in 2010:

And this, I believe, makes our task much easier, as they'll have to own this fellow and his budget.
But drives us even deeper into debt. Man, are they going to be surprised!
