If Obama or any other Dem president did McCain the way tRump has, impeachment papers would hit congress as fast as the wind could carry them.
I'm not going to lionize John McCain, but as far as I'm concerned he's earned plenty of respect from me. His vote to save Obamacare, his gracious concession speech when he lost in '08, his Navy service and his refusal to leave his POW brethren unless they were released as well is deserved. Despite the numerous political differences, his life-long service to this country is something we should honor, IMHO.
tRump is so devoid of morals and graciousness that he is incapable of even the smallest of honors towards John McCain. It's not just disdain tRump has for him. It's pure jealousy. Captain Bonespurs was too cowardly to serve while McCain was tortured and remained with his fellow POW's.
Still, it boggles the mind that the RW who've held themselves up as lovers or our military will turn on them at the drop of a hat. The history is there of them insulting and degrading the service of others who don't line up to their way of thinking. Now, they've got tRump and they're following him every step of the way.
What I do like is that McCain is having the last word with not just with what he's said, but his well-chosen pallbearers, those who eulogize him and the obvious non-invitation as well.
tRump's behavior regarding McCain shows just how small of a man he is. The resistance in honoring McCain only serves to show that he always was and always will be the better man no matter the politics.
(Personally, I think tRump took a political hit over this)

(16,254 posts)Refusing to lower the flag was very immature; raising it less than 24 hours later was even worse. His condolences to the McCain family was nice, but did not show any sympathy for John nor honor for his service in a war Trump managed to avoid. His message after McCain's death should have been to represent the citizens of the United States, but he couldn't even bend to do that until forced by his staff...Sarah, I believe. All in all, he received a failing grade for his conduct.
The average citizen has been in these situations during their private life and understand what acceptable behavior and decorum most of us live by when providing comfort to the family of one who has recently passed. It is also traditional to say kind words of the deceased, particularly if they have spent their lives in service to their country. So, to see Trump be so uncharitable tended to make people wince uncomfortably. That inability to carry out his duties in such a personal situation provoked many and they gave a thumbs-down to his performance.
I still feel Trump's childhood holds a lot of answers to his adult behavior. For one, I can see where he was probably not invited to birthday parties and that left a bitter memory that he still holds onto today. He holds grudges for years and jumps at the opportunity to get his pay-back at any affront. I can understand why McCain requested that he not attend his funeral, but that was an affront he couldn't pass up...POTUS, or not. The two of them seem to be playing ping-pong even after McCain has passed. Who has the next serve?

(18,470 posts)Yeah fuck head was whining that he did everything they requested he do. Normal Presidents would not have had to be requested to do anything. Such Presidents would have done everything without having to be asked by anyone.
Fuck that Orange turd.

I know McCain, knowing he was going to be gone before long made sure this was wrapped and released today!!
If this has the desired effect, I will have so much more respect for the man than I already do, I might even forgive him for foisting caribou barbie on us, maybe.

(Tongue in cheek. Your points are completely valid even with the inadvertent promotion).
