(14,565 posts)Easily the best segment on the matter I saw today on any of the cable programs. Laughable that so many are condemning it based on description alone.
Chuck Todd had already discussed the matter and knew that his guest Michael Steele did not agree with the apologetic views of DeSantis' remark. So that line was a set up softball to Steele to condemn the comment as hardly normal or something that could be flicked aside as nothing. Steele did exactly that, saying he could understand a different term for messing up but once it gets to something as strange as monkeying up it was feed to the base and could not be ignored.
Then Todd had a great interview with Gillum himself, including Gillum greeting native Miamian Chuck Todd with a warm, "Go Canes" to begin the interview. Todd then asked Gillum his allegiance toward the Florida football schools and the pecking order, saying he assumed Florida A&M was first. Gillum confirmed that about his alma mater, then said he viewed all the Florida schools positively. I didn't appreciate that as a Gator hater, but it was certainly the correct move politically.
We need dozens more segments like that every week. Gillum was introduced to people who no doubt were impressed with him immensely. I saw other posts on this forum today raving about Gillum's appearance with Todd on Meet the Press.
But maybe we prefer a nightly 25 minute windup, then repeat.
