This concept evolved over the course of the 19th century and became codified into the law of some states in the early 20th century. It was associated with the principle of "invisible blackness" and is an example of hypodescent, the automatic assignment of children of a mixed union between different socioeconomic or ethnic groups to the group with the lower status.[3]

French novelist Alexandre Dumas, was called "High Yellow" in a 1929 issue of Time magazine.
High yellow, occasionally simply yellow (dialect: yaller, yeller), is a term used to describe persons classified as black according to the one-drop rule.[1] It is a color reference to the yellow undertone of some black people. It is also used to describe a biracial person, or a purebred white person with a dark complexion. The term was in common use in the United States at the end of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century, but is now considered obsolete.[2] It is reflected in such popular songs of the era as "The Yellow Rose of Texas".

Think of all the talent and knowledge that would leave with thier waves of purges . How much has left already? What refugee child may have made some great contribution to this country later in life?
To avoid confusion I just want to say Dumas was French, but is the wiki example of how a USA article described him in 1929 due to our ideas of race here at the time
