I'm getting nervous, hearing on cable about what Trump could do after he fires Sessions. He can appoint as interim AG anyone who has already been confirmed by congress for *any* position--say, Betsy DeVos--who could then shut down the special counsel's investigation and have the information sealed and not released at all. Or allow the report to be written and then sealed.
He might have to fire Rosenstein in the process, but it was news to me that he can appoint anyone he wants who has already been confirmed as interim AG.
Please, somebody tell me this is not so.

Eventually Trump is going to create the Constitutional Crisis you fear. If Dems don't take Congress this fall, he'll do it over Xmas when everyone's otherwise engaged. Come to think of it, if they do take the majority, he'll do it before they're sworn in. We're coming to the crux. Either way, America will slip further down the slope towards Autocracy.
If Mueller is fired, the remaining straight arrows at CIA, DOJ & the FBI will go into open rebellion. 2019 & 2020 will be unbearable, and likely, there will be blood in the streets.
If he's re-elected, there may never be another election in his lifetime.

The law clearly applies when an opening occurs due to death. It doesn't clearly apply to a situation when someone is fired.

(13,571 posts)He listed many things that he believes Mueller is doing to protect the prosecutions should his particular investigation be shut down.
Such as sealed indictments, things handed off to many other jurisdictions, etc.
If I can find a clip of the comment, I'll post it here.
