Making History in Arizona!

My State Legislative District (24) is pretty solid blue, but the Old Guard candidates always ran as a "ticket", even in the primaries (i.e. one have one state senator and two representatives running a combined campaign). Our State Senator, Katie Hobbs is running for Sec of State, so one of the Reps (Lela Alston) is running for State Senate, and teamed up with the other rep, Ken Clark and a old political insider (John Glenn) to form a ticket for yesterday's primary.

Neither Clark nor Glenn campaigned much, thinking they had it in the bag on name recognition alone. The Voters thought different, and choose two political newcomers for the Democratic Slate:

Dr. Amish Shah led the vote getters - an Indian-American ER surgeon, favors Medicare for all and other progressive planks

Jennifer Longdon - a disability and gun rights activist who was left paralyzed from the waist down after a drive-by random shooting

The "Slate Candidates" finished 3rd and 5th.

A great day for Arizona - new ideas, new experiences for the State House
