Gee, I wonder why that could be!
Hint: jury pools matter!

(22,037 posts)Roanoke, VA is in the mid-western part of Virginia. The Roanoke Colony ( The Lost Colony) was near Manteo, North Carolina which is hundreds of miles away. The trial has to be in the specific Federal district where the charges were filed, I believe.
Manafort wants to move the trial because that part of Virginia is conservative. He saw that the jury convicted him on 8 out of 18 charges and that on the remaining 10, the vote was 11-1 to convict. Manafort knows he's got trouble ahead. I hope he can't sleep at night.

(872 posts)I'm guessing the success rate on something like this is low. The chances of it happening here, are probably close to zero. It's not as if they can make an argument that a different location would result in less people who know about Manafort.
But the lawyers need Billable Hours, and like any other motion, there will be pages and pages to be written and submitted, because at this point, EVERYTHING has to be thrown at the wall, since desperation is setting in.
