Why Do Republicans Put Up with Trump?

August 29, 2018 at 8:11 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Walter Shapiro: “Any generic Republican president (say, Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio) would have slashed taxes, rolled back regulations and appointed conservative judges. But no honorable man or woman in public life would have … hang on, it’s a long list: Ridiculed a Vietnam POW. Lied compulsively about everything. Trusted felons like Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn and Michael Cohen. Viciously and repeatedly attacked the integrity of the FBI, the Justice Department and the national security establishment.”

“Declared war on a free press. Cozied up to authoritarian leaders like Vladimir Putin. Kept secret what happened at the Helsinki summit. And continually treated Canada (yes, Canada) like a major enemy.”

“The list is far from comprehensive and skips pre-presidential actions like approving hush money for a porn star. But, to steal a line from Bob Dole’s 1996 presidential campaign, ‘Where’s the outrage?'”

I have little doubt he's got some interesting files put away in his own vault that may rival those the National Inquirer has on him.

The GOP loves Trump because he gets away with the kind of bad behavior they only wish they could. All of the GOP posturing and pretending to have high morals and values is mere political spin and has no real basis in fact. Take a look at their policies. They all come from the same swamp.

And his agenda is to pack the courts with judges of their ilk... Politicians can be voted out or impeached... judges last a long time and can push the conservative agenda longer..

YMMV..

hate radio, FOX news, and Russian Internet trolls.

There's no fall back to normalcy other than to become a Democrat. There is also the feeling among the few non-cult GOPers that Trump is a useful idiot. Most likely, though, most Republicans in office are as indoctrinated into the cult as the base. You have a few older GOPers like McCain, but they're rapidly fading. When there gone all that will be left are these fanatics. America has one political party and one ... I have no idea what the current GOP is. A troll for Russia, Saudia Arabia, etc... appears to be what it is these days.
