(7,633 posts)He is a Democrat with a lot of political experience. I think he stands a good chance to win against the demented trumper.

(10,053 posts)the one major endorsement by Bernie Sanders, too, did not reflect all the support that he really had.

(53,789 posts)Sanders' was "the one major endorsement" when there were many prominent endorsers?
Thenarrative pushed by some that Sanders' endorsement lifted him from obscurity and the primary win is just false.
He's not an OR candidate but a self-avowed regular Democrat who was a Clinton delegate in 2016.

(10,053 posts)Here in Broward County, we are still hurting from Parkland and we would have voted for Andrew Gillum with or without endorsements. I think my admiration of the long list may have given you the wrong impression.

(42,862 posts)I was under the impression that only Bernie had endorsed him, and only Bernie had lifted him from obscurity, that he was Bernie's protege, that Bernie was his mentor, and only Bernie deserves credit for his win, and that without Bernie he'd be little more than a "has-been" or "yesterday's news".
All I'm saying is that it's odd to me to see how the media and pundits (and online discussion forums) are so willing, eager, to give credit for one man's success to someone who doesn't deserve it.
Me.

(42,334 posts)Gillum won because he ran a great campaign and got the Democratic base (women of color) out to vote. And yes, he got some great endorsements as well - because of his policies and values.

(14,565 posts)I thought I wouldn't consider anyone but Graham until I saw all the high profile endorsements for Gillum. I mentioned it in the Florida forum.
It had to mean something, that this guy had plenty of substance.
I ended up voting for Graham anyway but it was not a slam dunk and I had my eye on Gillum and how he was faring. Frankly, I thought he would end up a respectable second, setting up a future run for high office.
But let's do it now. We cannot allow another Republican in that office because one they are established it is more much difficult to oust an incumbent four years later.

(5,591 posts)that he is the right candidate!
Forget The Media lauding only Sanders. That one bit of support doesnt matter as long as our strong base of African American women are behind him.
Focus on HIS character and quality!
Look at that list if endorsements.
Hes extremely impressive!

(23,421 posts)Bernie Sanders was one of them - there were many others. It's good that Sanders supported him, and it's good that others supported him too.
