Liked the first season but didn't care for the second as much. This season looks good based on the trailer.

(4,575 posts)is coming back for a third season. McConaughey and Harrelson were the greatest but I also like Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams.

(33,643 posts)Season 2 I didn't watch due to the bad reviews, didn't want it ruined.
Mahershala Ali signing on for Season 3 sounds ... promising ... loved him as Remy in HoC and all else I've seen him in, powerful actor.

(47,506 posts)I've seen on television. Season 2 was torturous to get through. I kept hanging in there hoping it would get better, but it actually got worse. I figured they'd probably just given up on the show. Glad to see there will be a season 3.

(14,566 posts)Season one was one of the best tv in history, and I wasnt a fan of mcconahae. Season two was seriously painful.

(47,506 posts)though the writing was pretty bad as well.
I've always like Vaughn as comedic actor, but he was so unbelievable as an intimidating gangster. What were they thinking?
Casting Vaughn was definitely a fundamental misstep. I am not a huge Colin Farrell fan, but he did OK given the project as a whole.
The overall feel to it was horrible, the story was confusing as hell, and too many key moments unbelievable. They spread themselves too thin with four main characters vs having two main characters in season one, and overall too many loose threads.
The texture provided by the southern atmosphere was brilliant in season one, they completely whiffed on trying to develop texture out of the urban west coast setting.
I actually dreaded watching it by the end.

(47,506 posts)I actually watched some episodes twice. I knew it would be hard to live up to episode 1, but I didn't expect it to be so bad. I honestly can barely remember anything about it now, just that it was a chore to watch it.
You're right the southern atmosphere was amazing and Matthew McConaughey's dialogue was mesmerizing.

(14,566 posts)I had a long-standing fairly low opinion of McConaughey, he had a few pretty good movies going into it, so I kind of came into it willing to give him a chance.
IMO his work on season 1 was possibly the best acting to my mind I've seen in my life. Woody was really good too. Maybe his best work too.

(28,265 posts)Advance word on Season 3 better be damn good, or I'll find something else to watch. Life is too short to waste time on sub-standard TV shows.

(51,460 posts)They came into the vintage resale shop, where I had a booth, in the early spring. Bought one of my old long dresses and they were given pictures of my working 1979 Curtis Mathis color console TV. The prop manager had purchased another, so that's still in my living room with my flat screen on top!
It was exciting. They bought like $4K of stuff in the store. Anything they liked from the 1970s.
Too bad, I don't have HBO so can't see if somebody wears my dress.

(34,172 posts)It's about a news reporter investigating small-town murders in her hometown, but it has the feel of the first season of True Detectives.
