It sounds as if she lost a beloved father, a man she respected and adored and looked up to, a father who loved her back with equal ardor. I envy that. Wish I'd had that father/daughter relationship in my own life.

I heard my mom and her two sisters talk about my granddad — born in 1890s — that way. He was “just” a dirt farmer, but got them through depression, was always there, and a lot more. His politics, though, were more along line of FDR.
