First African American nominee for governor in Florida

POLITICO @politico 11m11 minutes ago
Andrew Gillum is now the first African American nominee for governor in Florida.

Gillum pulled off a historic upset against Gwen Graham. He'll now face Republican Ron DeSantis — backed by Donald Trump — in November's general election.

...this is an indication that young folks and minority voters are turning out, with big victories for Gillum in Miami-Dade and Broward. Gillum also surprised in Jacksonville (Orange Co.) and Lee.

This is also a wake-up call to the Democratic party to give more heed to progressive voters, and to work to expand our voter base by appealing to these newly emerging voters who put Gillum over the top; energized, younger, more diverse, potential voters for the general election.

And here I was worried that he wasn't running nearly as many tv ads as Graham, Green, and Levine. Last I heard, he was travelling all over the state, talking to people in person.

Overlooked:

Per NBC News data, Gillum only spent $589K on TV, while Collective PAC spent $1.2M.

For context, Levine camp spent $23M (!), while Graham camp spent $8M.

As soon as Graham loses the nomination, she endorses the winner. We all have to work together to turn as many state governments as blue as we can. Andrew Gillum seems great. I'm happy he won the nomination. I hope he beats the pants off of the trump endorsed Ron Desantis

Any of them. I was back and forth until the last minute and finally voted Levine. Very impressed with Gillum’s statewide showing. He did well in every county

It might be a case of “everyone loves a winner,” but I am actually optimistic. I like to see good political skills to go along with the right positions on issues and we might just have that with Gillum.

I'm not sure how he could have been more articulate or impressive.

Based on that interview I think he would have won the primary by greater margin, with more exposure the past few months
