Gillum and Graham aren't really all that different, but Graham was probably the safer choice. Garrett78 Aug 2018 #13

He's clearly further to the left than Graham, and I like a lot of his positions, gun control, etc. But I worry that in a state like Florida, he might be a little too far left and end up losing a general that Graham could win.

I considered Gillum but voted for Graham. I mentioned it in the Florida forum.

Regarding electability I don't know what to think. Graham fares better in current polling but I know so many guys my age (59) who are scared of women in power and would prefer a black male candidate over a white woman. Again, I mentioned that in the Florida forum. Kind of like Obama above Hillary.

It all depends what Democratic women would do. Would they show up passionately for Gillum?

This is one of the most difficult balancing acts I can remember. A classy well spoken more traditional woman against a more progressive black male with the lingo and grass roots support.

I'm on team Gillum but will gladly support Graham. I'm so impressed by his late surge. He has been all over the state campaigning, even in my red area.

I expect Graham will get a lot of Panhandle votes but I guess we'll see.

Especially in a mid-term. If this was 2020, I would like Gillum's chances more, but he can win in November against a Trumpy...and I sure as hell hope that he does.

But conventional wisdom might be wrong. Florida has a large African American population, and Gillum may boost turnout more than Graham would have.
