The 1940s is one of my favorite decades for fashion. I'm old enough to remember the full skirts of the 1950s and for the most part, I don't miss that look. This particular skirt caught my eye though when i first saw it. I would have gone with a different top though, too tight and provocative looking for a first lady or the Oval Office, but we've never had a first lady quite like this before.

I think the skirt's too small. If you look at what it's supposed to look like, on a different woman, you'll see that it's supposed to fit at the waistline.

https://modesens.com/product/VALENTINO-ROMANTIC-GARDEN-BROCADE-A-LINE-SKIRT-YELLOW-MULTI-YELLOW-MULTI-1131969/

She's got the skirt pulled up to practically right under her bustline because the part that's supposed to fit her hips is now at her waistline. I think she has to do that, because I don't think it will fit her hips. That's why the top portion of it is so fitted, and why it flares out at her hips because that part is supposed to be the swingy leg portion. It does fit her to the same spot at the knee which means that her legs are shorter than the modeled dress, which means she should have bought a skirt that fit her, and had it altered to take the hem up.

I do think it's a beautiful skirt, although I think the price is outrageous. (Even the "on sale" version I found for $1185.) I understand that quality items, made ethically, do cost more, but not this much more. She's paying a couple hundred dollars for the material and the labor, and a couple thousand dollars for the little label that says Valentino.

That having been said, it's her money, and she can spend it any way she likes, including making it rain at the couture houses. But for God's sake, they'll alter it for you. They don't expect everybody's body to be the same. Why would you not get one that fit?

My son thought that I looked like a "strumpet" in it and that it wasn't appropriate for a family wedding....btw he did admit that it looked great- just a bit too trashy for his mom. So, I threw a work shirt over it and went to get an opinion from a friend who kinda agreed with my son.

I needed do some weeding at a garden that I work at as a volunteer and considered putting on a pair of sneakers to complete the outfit, and weed in the apparently inappropriate dress. Alas, I decided that it would be better to donate it.

Out here in my neck of the woods, we wear cowboy boots with everything, summer shorts or formal attire (gowns)... totally acceptable.

I once had to go rent a Peterbilt 3 axle tractor truck and drive it across LA in a formal gown and pumps, dangley earrings, hair was down... quite a scene at the rental place when I had to stroll out past the mechanics' bays to the yard. You could hear the tools drop on concrete then silence all along the way. They were all standing at the bay doors when I pulled around to get my stuff out of my tractor that was being worked on. And then there was traffic, it was daytime so people could see me. It was an interesting day.

Sure looks like it. It was the video where the reporters were yelling for The Donald to say something about McCain and she was sitting on the sofa. Looks like the same top, as well.

So I said it. I'm a bad person. I admit it, I'm okay with it.
I commented on a woman's looks.

Poor thing must have had a nasty reaction during that kidney procedure. Looks like it caused some very localised swelling in the thorax area.

Thoughts and prayers and all that.

75. The waist is unnatural....the boobs were already unnatural before Trump

She must be wearing a super tight girdle to fit her waist into that skirt.

It's making her boobs looks bigger than they usually look. If she had a more natural waistline skirt, then her boobs wouldn't be as noticable. Who knows, maybe her kidney op was a tummy tuck?

with a hemline high enough to avoid dragging in the dirt. I also don't wear pink trousers while gardening. I've learned that they never really come completely clean in the laundry.

I suppose the wealthy don't have to worry about soiling their clothing, though. Must be nice.

gloves when I shovel a hole large enough to plant a tree? Never ever wear them, they impede my grip on the shovel.

FFS does no one ever tell her how ridiculous and inept she come off looking?

I am going to show up in bell bottoms and Marco Rubio boots to make a fashion statement. Of course, the work is hard, I would last maybe 2 hours dressed like that.

Or is that a rhetorical question? Looks to me like she’s wearing Lisa and Oliver Douglas’s kitchen drapes from their Park Avenue penthouse. She must have ripped them down after moving to Hootersville.

scares me, the tone deafness if it. This is just out to lunch. Either yes, they are all that tone deaf or the Trumps don’t listen to any advice. Not only is this disturbingly wrong, which they probably don’t care, but it makes her look like a fool. Which I would think they would care about.

They support Donald Trump. He is the fucking textbook definition of an elitist. Everything about this photo with Melania screams elitism - $4,000 skirt, high heels, and a solid gold shovel, just to plant a damn tree? Shit, Jimmy Carter would have done it with his bare hands!

that she and her family have gargantuan dollars and that this is probably not much more than a photo OP, but still--isn't she worried about getting her dressy clothes dirty while doing her (supposed) yard work? Also this would look more sincere if she wore something less flashy. What are her handlers thinking?
