Can a VP who takes office because the pres leaves it...

... "appoint" a new VP? This happened on "Designated Survivor" and I was surprised, but I think I verified that the practice is true. Too tired to research again. Does some DUer know for sure?

as his VP after Ford became president upon Nixon's resignation.

The appointee must be confirmed by a majority of both houses: it will be interesting if there will be pressure on the Orange One to step down if the Republicans lose the House of Representatives in November.

I hadn't thought of that. Make him step down so that they can get one of "their kind" in the VP slot before January.

I don't think he will go that easily. Kicking and screaming is more likely. I liked Lawrence's take on what would happen in 2020 (assuming idiot face is still soiling the WH) if he refused to leave. The Secret Service would remove him. That simple.

Now we just need to get from now to then. Winning in November too!

Ford did that for Rockefeller. They can't "appoint". It requires approval of the Senate and the House.
