Poll: GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter up by 8 points despite indictment

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) holds an 8-point lead over his Democratic opponent despite being indicted on charges of misusing campaign funds, according to a new poll.

A Survey USA poll published Monday found that among likely voters in California’s 50th District who were surveyed, 47 percent plan to vote for Hunter, compared to 39 percent who favor Democratic challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar, if they are the only two candidates on the ballot. President Trump won the district by 15 points in 2016.

What does it say about these voters that they are willing to vote for a guy who is likely to be put in jail, possibly before ever taking office? This kind of thing is why it's so difficult to be like "oh, ok, you guys have good points." No! You are electing a criminal! An open and shut case which he can't ever survive.

Read the indictment people!

His Dem challenger needs to run an ad simply showing the indictment, in quick flashes, and telling people to read the indictment before they vote. It is absolutely ridiculous how much money they spent from the campaign fund.

To maintain racism , misogyny and the hatred of non xtians, many of your neighbors are willing to have everything taken from them.

They do NOT care about ANYTHING but racism, misogyny, and are embracing KGB to keep their interests alive.

that the glue which binds the deplorables and tRump together is racism. I was discussing this I with my parents a few hours earlier. We all agreed that Hunters district will reelect him. We live in San Diego and his district is heavy duty Right Wing (deplorable galore).

And runs his congressional seat from jail (yes, he is going to jail), forcing the GOP to be confronted with having to impeach him so the seat can be run.

Of course, I would bet money that Trump would pardon the dipshit.

So they'd have a literal convicted criminal working in congress.

There wouldn't be sufficient support for right wing economic policy, right wing environmental policy or right wing health care policy if racism vanished or was significantly diminished.

The notion that Trump won due to (white) economic anxiety is one of the most absurd and damaging notions ever promulgated. There's a reason right wingers pushed that narrative. How sad that so many leftists bought the lie.

Fortunately, we here in the coastal areas greatly outnumber them.

I live in Santa Rosa, the city that nearly burned to the ground last fall in the wildfires. I had more than one person from the red counties tell me they were glad that my city went up in flames and that us "blue northerners had it coming."

Lovely people.

You'd think they'd want what's best for the state, but they only want what's best for themselves. It's why so many Republican states are negative income providers for the country. They want their cake and want to eat it too. They're basically leeches and they don't understand that if they contributed it'd be better for everyone including themselves.

Because of Trump Republicans seem to have done a 180 on law and order and celebrate criminality.

They've openly said that they have to win the house in November because if Democrats win they will open investigations into Trump's crimes. They proudly proclaim that they will not allow any investigation into Executive branch crimes.

They have become the party that wants to replace democracy with criminality and anarchy.

whipping the anti-abortion crowd into a frenzy plus you have the build-the-wall anti immigration folks.

The one Hunter voting block that *might" defect from him now are the military and veterans, since the indictment reveals he and his wife lied about buying items to benefit charities including some for disabled veterans, instead spending money on themselves.

While some of these folks may not be willing to vote for a Democrat, especially a Palestinian-Mexican-American, they may simply not vote for anyone in this race, which would help Campa-Najjar.

He may also lose some votes from women since he's throwing his wife under the bus, and even some men I've talked with are appalled at that. Plus the indictment reveals his philandering ways, though apparently that's no longer an issue with many Trump voters; it's only a sin if a Democrat does it.

Campa-Najjar's best tactic to win is to register as many progressive voters as possible and get them to the polls. The district does have large pockets of minorities especially Latinos and Middle Eastern immigrants. El Cajon, one of the biggest cities in the district, is a majority minorities.

The trouble is in the rural areas; the best tactic there is to persuade voters to withhold their votes to show their disapproval of a crooked candidate.
