Apparently, Trump is trying to end NAFTA without have other trade plans in place. If any other President did something like this would they be called crazy or stupid. It seems like a bad idea to end one deal without having another deal already in place. Maybe this will not hurt the country that much, but how is trade going to work without the NAFTA deal in place? Are we just going to continue as if NAFTA was still in place? Are we going to go back to the way things were before NAFTA?

calling him "crazy or stupid" now is just redundant. hell, this isn't even the craziest stupidest thing he's done, so it automatically seems like hyperbole. the people who believe it already know about it, so it just causes additional pain, and the people who don't believe it will soldier on in his service, they're far more loyal to Trump than he ever was to his various wives.
if Trump voids NAFTA, in the absence of any other legislation, i'd assume any trade regulations it superseded that weren't actually rescinded after NAFTA will snap back into place, for better or worse.

(6,139 posts)nothing is off the table anymore. He withdrew from TPP, NAFTA is next. This election was never about economy for trump, it was always about transitioning the country towards autoritarian oligarchy.

(14,974 posts)Trump can do a lot of damage, but his assertion to have done X or done Y is somewhere between "extraordinarily misleading" and "entirely bogus"
Just a normal day in Trump's WH -- have a photo op where he claims to have done something, even though a) he didn't and b) he couldn't.
