Post-Trump, the GOP will say that they were the victim all along.

Evidence A:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100211056214
The Republicans know that there is a shit-ton of investigations that MUST be opened into Trump's corruption and lack of transparency.

Evidence B:
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/8/25/1790869/-GOP-Centrists-Ask-Democrats-To-Clean-Up-Their-Mess-Again
They are currently field-testing the talking-point that it is the Democrats who are responsible for removing and impeaching Trump.

Evidence C:
They will whine that we should move on. The political climate of the Trump-administration was so toxic and ugly! And that's why the Democrats must be extra-nice to the Republicans, to overcome this toxicity.

Evidence D:
The Republicans have yet again blown up the national debt. As soon as the Democrats are in power, they will complain that the Democrats are responsible for reducing the national debt.

Evidence E:
The Evangelicals, and the US in general, love redemption-storylines. The Republicans will claim that with Trump being out of power, their party has been reborn.
They are all-new. They have no connection to that ugly past. The Republican Party is free from sin, free from baggage, reformed, reborn, a party of the future, a fresh start.
And the media will happily play along because now they have a premise from which they can wring stories.
First we had "Who are the Trump-voters" stories.
After Trump, we will have "What happened to those poor, disappointed Trump-voters and how do they cope with this new reality?"

Stories about people who have always been against Trump have no drama.
