Its hard to imagine how life could get much worse for Republicans in advance of the 2108 midterm elections, but we here at DC Tribune think we might know of one, and it comes from the same source thats been the scourge of the Trump administration since May 17th, 2017: The Robert Mueller Special Counsel investigation.
And honestly, what could possibly be worse news for the GOP than to find out that one or more of their leaders were being focused on as part of that investigation?
We already know almost as a matter of course that Mueller is looking into statements made in private between members of the House GOP leadership, joking about fellow Republicans and even the President being on Vladimir Putins payroll. Thats not the type of discussion that doesnt make it into a final report about who knew what and when.
Unfortunately for him, it looks like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell may have known enough in advance to warrant a thorough investigation by Muellers team over what looks like at the very least some obstruction of justice charges of his own. Questions that Mueller would likely want answers to[.]

I've thought for a long time that Mueller should be investigating members of Congress as well as tRump & Co. There are just too many GOPers wandering around ignoring Treason for it just to be Politics as usual.
Note: I don't know how reliable a source this paper is, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Mueller were investigating McConnell, Ryan, Nunes, and others.

Not only that but nobody else has reported anything close to what is on that site. It's Louise Mensch all over again.

(1,474 posts)As a political entity, the gop are, IMO, complicit in the Russian Money Conspiracy. Will Mueller be able to expose the gop as the traitors and thieves they are? The gop has given up its law and order mantra across the entire party. They act guilty.
We probably can't fix the stolen supreme court judges or the miasma of RWNJ justices that McConnell has conspired to install, but seeing these quislings in jail will be a moral victory and restore some faith in the United States.

(624 posts)I bet McConnell, Ryan, Nunez, and many others had full knowledge. The RNC itself is complicit, along with several individuals of high profile. Drain the treasonous swamp!

(4,611 posts)Until Democrats retake the Senate (likely not until 2020), Senate Republicans are the only hope of passing some kind of legislation to protect Mueller. The instant he went after McConnell, every GOP senator would become his enemy and would immediately support Trump firing him. (Most already do, but that would make it unanimous.)
Moreover, McConnell ostensibly had nothing to do with the Trump campaign and its ties to Russia. Unless Mueller had very strong evidence implicating McConnell, evidence that unquestionably would have arisen within the scope of his investigation, he would be opening himself to serious allegations of overstepping his mandate and would, in effect, be handing Republicans a golden bullet to take him out with.

(58,785 posts)But if McConnell had somehow gotten involved in Russia's occult warfare, by now Mueller would know it, at very least strongly suspect, and be gathering evidence.
McConnell]s a very careful operator, but he's intensely unethical and corrupt and could conceivably have gotten caught up somehow. We have reason to believe some members of congress do have ties to Russia, some very longstanding, and may have committed illegal acts that threaten to destroy the party. As a top leader it's McConnell's business to know what's going on in his party and to make decisions and take actions to protect it, and his position of power.
McConnell also reportedly is also the largest single recipient of LEGAL Russian donations, via a PAC that serves him. How clever of his sort to create a legal conduit for unlimited foreign donations to PACs. But it wouldn't be astonishing if Mueller was investigating those connections to Russia and found something actionable among what should be highly illegal transactions.
Also, notably, it wouldn't have to be Mueller. McConnell's been famously selling his influence his entire political life. He's careful, but conceivably being careful enough in an environment where scrutiny and will to prosecute are lacking might not be careful enough when they are not. It's not impossible that he could be among the many who will be brought down by increased scrutiny resulting from Trump's upsetting the political apple cart.
Not holding my breath, but hoping that even one of McConnell's many illicit dealings is also illegal and finally officially acted on is definitely more than a silly pipe dream.

THere is a tape of this and it was played and reported a while back - someone on MSNBC. That was the one where Ryan said let's keep in the family, just between us. They said Trump and Rohrabacker were the two they thought PUtin was paying. We dont know for a fact that Mueller is investigating this, but certainly he knows about it and most likely is checking it out.
WE also know that this is true: "Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell may have known enough in advance to warrant a thorough investigation by Muellers team over what looks like at the very least some obstruction of justice charges of his own." Not may have known, but DID know.
Obama wanted to take the info about Russian hacking to the people along with GOP leadership, but McConnell refused to go along with it .
We also know GOP has taken lots of RUssian money.
So i would be very surprised if Mueller wasn't investigating a bunch of GOP congress critters.
