John McCain's finest moment (for me) came in 2008, when a woman at a rally referred to Obama as an Arab. "No, ma'am," McCain replied. "He's a decent family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with." That's manning up.

He would not allow that piece of shit, to say what she said about Barack and get away with it. There are limits and he drew the fucking line. He stated without equivocation, NO NO No you are not going to do this. I will Respect Senator John McCain for that, forever.

And Sarah Palin was his choice as a running mate.

Is there much of a difference between the woman McCain confronted and Palin?

John held the line. He would not allow his campaign to be used for stupid shit. I accept that PALIN WAS A COMPLETE AND UTTER MORON. John McCain survived as a POW in Vietnam. Let that sink in. You should be ashamed of yourself for even questioning my support.

I don't know who owns that tape, but I believe I saw it on MSNBC within the last week.
It's very telling of McCain's character, he was always respectful towards Obama.

He understood the woman was a bigot who conflated Arabs with being Muslim and thus terrorism. Probably a few more negative stereotypes thrown in as well.

same as when they accused Obama of being born in Kenya. it's not a negative thing because there is something wrong with being born in kenya. it's what those who say it are implying with it.

I think his intent was what any decent person would have wanted to say. I'm also sure if he had a little bit more time to form the thought correctly, then he would have been more precise with his words. That was my take on it then, and I never saw/heard anything from him to make me think any different since.

That brainless quiff of a woman was so fucking stupid that the only response she deserved was John McCain palming her ugly fucking face and then shoving her as hard as he could into something sharp and pointy. He didn't, and deserves credit for that.

I recall hearing the crowd immediately booing him for such sacrilege. I never heard that part again.
