(21,188 posts)Todays repuke party has no respect and decency for the law or morality.
They are unconsciousable and evil.
The people who follow them are truly misguided in what humanity is all about. Whats in a persons heart should be more important than the color of their skin. A concept they didnt learn growing up or as an adult.

It's the first time it has happened in AZ, but the AZ state laws go something like this: the governor appoints someone to fill the seat until the next general election. The person appointed must belong to the same party as the person who is being replaced. If the seat isn't normally up for election in that year, whoever wins that election only serves the remainder of the original term, not 6 new years so that the staggered Senate election cycle remains unchanged.
In this case, McCain was up for re-election in 2022. AND it is too late to use 2018 as the "next" general election. So Gov Ducey will appoint someone, probably a real RW lunatic, who will serve about 2 years. This Senate seat will be up for election in 2020, but the thing being run for is just the last 2 years (at that point). The seat will be up for election again in 2022 to resume its normal 6 year cycle.
What this means for Kavanaugh? A certain confirmation vote from the appointee, I expect.

(819 posts)Very informative post. I figured an R would be appointed in his place. I didn't know about the details so thank you.

(71 posts)there are 3 candidates for Sen Flake's seat. All three are Repubs. The primary is Tuesday. Kelli Ward or Martha McSally are expected to win. If one of them does, I'm betting the Gov will appoint Sherriff Joe (the third candidate in the primary)
There is speculation that he could appoint McCain's wife, Cindy.
