Well, I for one am saddened at his loss as a far more honorable foe than any we face now. RIP, sir.

(16,201 posts)I may have had some policy disagreements with the man, but he was a patriot to the end.

(12,328 posts)Anything negative he says now about McCain can only be seen as petty and mean. It's the usual we've come to expect from Trump.

Peace to your family and friends.

(22,976 posts)5 1/2 years as a POW, so much torture endured, some of it in solitary.
He was admired by colleagues on both sides of the aisle. But love him, hate him, or indifference whatever one thinks, John McCain was one of a kind.

(21,809 posts)There is a port of no return, where ships
May ride at anchor for a little space
And then, some starless night, the cable slips,
Leaving an eddy at the mooring place .
Gulls, veer no longer. Sailor, rest your oar.
No tangled wreckage will be washed ashore.

(6,831 posts)Eternal father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the Sea !
O Christ ! Whose voice the water heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the Sea.
Most Holy Spirit ! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the Sea !
O Trinity of love and power !
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

(8,685 posts)I rented a condo a few years ago in National Harbor from John McCain's personal cook. She was a African America lady. I never met her personally but I did meet her daughter. From those conversations I got the impression John was very good to her mother and was very generous to her as well. I think he was a very decent man even though his political policies were far from mine.
His voice of reason will be missed in the Senate.
RIP Senator McCain.
