When the wheels do actually fly off this bus, it's going to be very sudden, like a matter of hours. He'll be out of the country before the media have verified his resignation. If the economy is still relatively good he might be more showy and record some kind of farewell ("I'm a turnaround artist. You elected me to make America great again, and it's great again." )
The other things that are happening at the time in the nation and the world will determine a lot of the specifics.
