If he kept pissing on the FBI, the DOJ, the rest of the intelligence community & the press? Did he really think they would be cowed by his bluster?
It's only a matter of time before every little bit of dirt on his whole "family business" comes out now.

(7,512 posts)He has always gotten away with all manner of crap. No one exhibited any control in the beginning of his term so he went with it. He truly believes he is bulletproof. Only recently has he begun to tumble to the notion some people do right because that's the way they roll they aren't for sale or compromised. It baffles and frightens him.

(20,587 posts)he had to have known his business would be scrutinized and his criminal acts discovered. He likely thought being president was being a dictator and he could hide everything. His ego overestimated the "loyalty" surrounding him.
Just think, he has been getting away with what will likely to be discovered, criminal behavior for decades - why was no one even looking into this, especially the Russian connections.

(1,336 posts)and he managed to get elected without having to show his tax returns. So why wouldn't he think he would continue to be shielded from scrutiny? And when someone's ego is as large as his is, he would convince himself (and may even continue to do so) that he's simply untouchable. I also doubt that he's capable of (or willing to) looking into the future with any sort of imagination or questioning of what "could" happen to him.

(30,763 posts)He may be a Russian asset, but he was just put there to create chaos. Maybe he would have refused to give way, to allow the peaceful transfer of power if Hillary had been declared the winner. I saw his look of shock, the deer-in-the-headlights look when they declared him the "winner." His whole family had that shocked look.
He had to get his marching orders after he was elected. Then he started tearing down the entire government, out of ignorance, fear and greed. Of course, Putin is the force behind much, but not all, of this.
I don't believe he wanted the job. But now he will hang onto it for dear life.

He is insane and can't separate reality from fantasy.

(47,591 posts)I often thought you have to be crazy to piss off the FBI. I sure wouldn't want them as an enemy. They have resources and capabilities that we cannot begin to fathom. Why on earth would someone give them the motivation to use them?

(14,494 posts)It's been said that he believes the entire DOJ is under his command, so therefore they answer to him and are at his personal pleasure and use. Sorta like the kid mowing the WH lawn. Many of his Tweets reinforce that belief.
