(4,268 posts)"Democrats are poised to take action to respond to this CULTURE OF CORRUPTION THAT HAS TAKEN HOLD UNDER MR.TRUMP AND REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL MAJORITIES.
Dems, say it over and over and over again. CULTURE OF CORRUPTION!!
Nice letter. "House Republicans may be willing to abet President Trump's worst behavior, but I am not". Nice.

(32,722 posts)Trust me, Pelosi wants to be rid of the orange asshole as much as any of us do. She has strategic reasons for saying that "impeachment is not a priority" however.
She understands that there are many contested districts in the 50 states where Democratic candidates are trying hard to beat the Republican incumbent. Many (if not most) have a good chance of succeeding in winning their seats and flipping their districts. But it's still a tough sell in the red districts, so there's no reason to make it harder for them. There's no need to push the treason/impeachment talk now. Don't get the GOP all upset, let them think everything is hunky-dory. Obviously it's not, but we just need to get the seats flipped to blue in November.
Once the Dems win the majority in the House, it's a whole new ballgame. We're not there yet, but we will be in November. Trust Nancy Pelosi, she knows what she's doing. She's been around the block a few times. She'll be leading the impeachment brigade when the time comes.

(7,403 posts)Before the election and another thing after the election all Trump like.
That said, we need to let things play out and see where it takes us. No need to be premature either way.

(10,173 posts)Unless you actually believe Clinton's behavior which lead to impeachment and Trump's are one in the same.
and there's a word for such specious reasoning: bothsideism.
I remember some talk by Nadler that impeachment shouldn't happen if it wasn't supported by a vast majority of Americans and covering up an affair was not an impeachable event. Maybe that was someone else.
know what..nevermind. Because I refuse to explain why this shit is different. It's not like people don't know .. so this is all I've got:

(10,173 posts)you are right to point out the political calculations which need to be made but again, I don't see how Nadler's words will come to haunt anything- since we both acknowledge Trump's behavior to be far more egregious.

(56,828 posts)and idiots like Don Jr, Eric, Jared, Manafort,Gates, Papadapolous, etc testify under oath and start stabbing each other in the back and/or making huge gaffes, we'll see support for impeachment increase quite a bit from its already high levels. I think most polls have indicated that impeachment support is already higher than Trump's overall support.
I don't recall there being an overwhelming groundswell of Americans wanting to impeach Clinton back in the 90s - it fired up the RW base of the Republicans, but Democrats and independents were "meh" about it, or felt that censure was more appropriate.
According to this - it was 65 to 32 against impeachment after a week of hearings

Trump is already in the 40s on needing to be impeached.
