Congressional action and protest rallies are among the contingencies being planned if Trump tries to shut down the Russia probe.

WASHINGTON It would start within minutes of special counsel Robert Mueller being fired a torrent of activity ricocheting through the halls of Congress and over television airwaves, including nearly a thousand protests being prepped from the Virgin Islands to Alaska.
Democrats have drafted a wide-ranging contingency plan should Mueller be fired or President Donald Trump take other steps to quash the Russia investigation, like firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or pardoning key witnesses.
Of top concern in the first 24 hours of such a move would be preventing Muellers documents from being destroyed and his team disbanded, according to interviews with nearly a dozen lawmakers, congressional aides, Democratic operatives and attorneys involved in the planning.
Almost immediately, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer would consult with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, while Democrats would demand a floor vote on a bill retroactively protecting Mueller and protecting his materials. In both the Senate and House, rank-and-file Democrats would contact a list of sympathetic Republicans who have signaled privately that theyd be willing to act should Trump pull the trigger.

(15,543 posts)the republicans are a disgrace and have failed America badly. I have no hope that they will ever take a stand for honesty, integrity, decency, truth, or loyalty to America.

(5,693 posts)None of the measures the Dems are going to attempt will amount to anything. Not that they shouldn't pull out all the stops, but realize anything will only be symbolic in nature.

(2,062 posts)I guarantee there are several copies of every document involved in this investigation, and just as we are going to see in the very near future (Virginia is taking Manafort to court), the New York attn general have copies, the Virginia attn gen has copies, maybe the DC... IF anything should happen in the federal investigation, the states can and will take over. I know my state attn is filing several suits against the Fuckump mafia family...

(16,646 posts)I'd fully expect that all documentation has electronic versions and that it'd be a stroke of a key to transfer it all to where ever it needs to go.

(2,062 posts)I agree and actually believe its already there. Especially anything to do with Manafort.

(16,646 posts)To some extent, if it's anything like around here, there are probably requirements for the preservation of this stuff such that it is transferred on a regular basis to an electronic storage facility, or even the National Archives.

(16,646 posts)I'd bet that when their network was established, they would have ensured that their storage and backup requirements were also conforming. (Remember, part of what they are investigating is "hacking". They've probably got great cyber security specialists working their network.)
