Trump will pardon Manafort, and the republicans will say nothing (Original Post)

OP
Exactly. Trump issuing a pardon to Manafort after today would be disastrous for republicans.

That wouldn't surprise me at all, although it would be really stupid for Trump to do.

(53,061 posts)15. commutation has nothing to do with it as I understand it
You can only claim the 5th if you have jeopardy, if you have been sentenced and had your punishment commuted you no longer face legal jeopardy.
If someone no longer has any legal jeopardy then they cannot claim the 5th.
They would be required to answer a subpoena and answer truthfully or could be prosecuted for contempt of court (if they refused to testify) or perjury (if they lied.

Nixon was pardoned for all acts up until the time of the pardon even though he had not been charged with any at the time.

A few will "say" they are troubled and concerned. And then "do" nothing.

There would be no where they can hide. With Cohen coping and implicating Trump in an effort to deceive the public, Trump's standing with 65-70% of America voters just went into the toilet for good, a pardon would engulf him and republicans in flames.

He is facing another trial next month.
Plus, in the lawyers statement for Manafort, he thanked the jury for a fair trial. So what is tRump going to say now? Manafort has given the jury praise for fairness. There goes his go to argument for pardoning people. Soooo unfair.
