(40,231 posts)Who was Sydney Biddle Barrows, you ask.....
Sydney Biddle Barrows was arrested in New York City for running a prostitution ring and became known as The Mayflower Madam.
Yes ladies and gentleman, some moron at Gregory-Lincoln Middle School decided to inspire the boys and girls who go to school there with the words of a rich hooker.
You. Can. Not. Make. This. Shit. Up.

(9,350 posts)When has responsibility for the behaviors of men and boys not be placed on women and girls. We just went through an election in which a woman was criticized for the actions of her husband. During that same election and man was found not guilty of raping a women because of what she wore on the day he drugged her and had sex with her.

(57,346 posts)there to protect sexual predators because after all boys will be boys and women have to take care of themselves. Victim blaming 101.
The source of the quote makes me think whoever had this put up thinks HE'S a funny/ironic guy. Fire his ass.

(5,075 posts)As the above implies that males have no self-control, then the best solution is to put chastity belts on them.

(6,831 posts)I thought this kind of nonsense mentality went out when I was in high school.
We actually had an older (unmarried) female teacher who went around to girls telling them: not to wear patent leather shoes (because that boys could see the reflection of their underwear in those shoes); not to wear red clothing (because red is too passionate of a color and it would "turn the boys on" , not to come to school on "those" days (because boys could smell their hormones and would not be able to control themselves), and other such utter rot. She also demanded that the school cafeteria stop putting tables cloths (they were plastic) on the tables at lunch time because it would remind the boys of bed sheets.
She believed that responsibility for boys' behavior rested with the girls.
I really thought this was stuff for the archives, not actual content in 2018.

(5,075 posts)We were required to wear dresses so we were a bit constrained when we went out for recess. Happily for me, we did have one teacher who strongly suggested we wear shorts underneath and that that would help to stop accusations that we girls where "inciting" the boys.
Haggis for Breakfast
(6,831 posts)That's one of the things this teacher did. She'd make the girls get on their knees and if their dresses didn't touch the floor, then they were too short.

Power to the people............ but just because a quote gets painted over doesn't mean the culture that supported it to begin with doesn't still exist........... hope the parents of kids there stay vigilant.

(4,311 posts)Ann Landers told the world that, if a boy/man molested you sexually, you must have subconsciously wanted it and sent out subconscious signals that attracted him. It was a girl's responsibility to control her subconscious libido which obviously had all the power in a relationship with a male.
Because, obviously, a male could not control himself.

(36,538 posts)We were told in Sunday school that God is neither male nor female. I got in trouble for asking why we referred to God as Father & Son, & if God didn't have a gender, why don't we have a special pronoun for God? It wasn't the only time I got in trouble for asking "inappropriate questions" at church.
