FLIPPABLE: Hunter Cantrell for MN-HD56A

I have had the privilege of spending almost my entire life living in Savage and Burnsville. I attended Vista View, Hidden Valley, Eagle Ridge, and Burnsville High School (Go Blaze!). We have a great community unlike anywhere else, and I want to work with you to make our community even greater by earning your trust and support to serve you as a citizen of house district 56A in the Minnesota State House of Representatives in November of 2018.

When I was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2017, the first thing that occurred to me was how lucky I am that I'm able to afford the exorbitant costs of all the screenings, tests, and chemotherapy medications that I needed in order to treat my lymphoma. As I've continued through treatment, I've watched as politicians in every level of our government have failed to make meaningful changes to our healthcare system so that nobody who is diagnosed with a serious illness is prevented from getting the healthcare that they need.

We have a crisis in our state where members of our community are increasingly being burdened by outrageous premium increases, prohibitive deductibles, and rising out-of-pocket healthcare costs. In a moral society, I don't think anyone's survival or good health should depend on luck; that is why I felt the call to public service.

Service is something that has always been a part of my life. It's been my pleasure to serve people with developmental disabilities since I was 16, and I also currently work as a tutor at two of my former schools in order to help students reach their full academic potentials. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering as a companion for folks who are enrolled in a hospice care service. I believe that anyone who seeks public office should be as active in building their community as possible because we don't need any more politicians: We need public servants.

I want to bring my focus on service to the legislature, so that together we can build a more responsive state government that truly works for us, and not just the political parties or special interests.
