(7,725 posts)And somehow, we have to start forgiving each other and refuse to be ugly for uglys sake to fellow Americans in the future.
The big dogs however, need to pay for the division they've sown in this great country. And it needs to HURT them. Anytime i ever heard a repub change his stance, it was bc something effected them. They need to be punished for whats happened, but the guys next store, at our dinner tables, at work, need to be forgiven, and that needs to go both ways. (and be sincere.)
Being an educated, kind, free-thinking Liberal human being isn't a crime. We tried it their way (albeit by hook or by CROOK), and their way way got us here...to the edge of oblivion. Let forgiveness of others CONTROL of us, BE our global religion.
The Peoples Religion, that stepped in when the gods were found to be figments of our fear and imagination. A common thread we can hang our hats on. Saving ourselves by saving each other.
Just like Richard Russell...the pilot. Had the Tower said to him on a secure channel that he could bring the plane home and that he wouldn't go to jail, i believe he wouldv'e landed that plane and gone to sleep in a bed that night. Maybe some treatment on probation. I dunno. We need to be the Tower Controlller and send the message that true repentance for what has happened will be met w forgiveness. We will trust but verify that they've given up their rhetorical arms. Just like the civil war south. The North/Democrat/BLUE will rise again to save us all from a mis-guided bunch. We have to, bc to not see some answer that way means another day like today, or yesterday, or the day before that. I for one have had enough. Pretty sure most of America has as well.

(37,648 posts)That when all this is over - and it will be - and the historians weigh in, documentaries and movies are made, and those who were involved in trying to overthrow our democracy are identified and feet held to fire....there will have been two sides, just like in Germany. There were the Nazis and those who supported them, and there were the others. You've now identified clearly which side you're on. It will be a mark of shame for the rest of your life, though you'll probably lie about.
You'll probably say you were against throwing innocent children in cages with concrete floors & no beds, hundreds of miles away from their parents, when in fact you supported it because your leader said it was good. Your name is out there, though. Your identity is known. It is known which side you were on.

Bush started a war based on bullshit. So he gets to sit home and paint pictures. There was no impeachment. Not even hearings. Yes, impeachment would have failed but the process might have shone light on the process by which the lies "The mushroom gun and the smoking cloud" were designed and disseminated.
We might have found the reasons behind the war in the first place.
Instead, we got, "Impeachment is off the table."
Meanwhile, many of Bush's legislative supporters are still in office.

voiced the let's "move-on" attitude, leaving justice lying in the dirt.
This country needs rise up to rid the nation of the corruption and despotism embodied by all facets of the GOP. They are destroying the fabric of our democracy, cut by cut. They are traitors. We need them named and prosecuted.

(7,725 posts)but I died a little inside when he wouldn't prosecute the war criminals, and doubled down and kept us in Iraq and Afghanistan. If I (ME...the Crutch) could have been crestfallen in the greatest president I'd ever known, I firmly believe those on the right can take a 1-2 punch in the gut on their guy as well. For the country we all wake up to everyday. I was SO disappointed Pres O didn't set the example w war mongers. Cheney/Rumsfeld especially... Don ivan isn' taking them with him to whatever shangrila(sp) don thinks he's headed for.
In the end, we all have to eat crow and take hits to what we want in life and desire, juxtaposed over what reality really is. I understood Pres O had his reasons and a legacy to leave behind, but, it sure was hard to accept. The gop needs to have a come to their jesus moment soon. Today would be easily a year too late for that. They've been living on borrowed time, OURS.
We have to love each other more than we hate the political labels. AM radio needs to be shut down in toto. It's nothing but farm reports and hate programs, and farmers can get their reports in their combines and satellite connections at this date and time. We need a 911 level moment of social recognition for the guy next door, and the family members we've actually written off, and actually despise for laughingly allowing this to happen bc.."We put up w Obama for 8 years". CLEARLY, we need a national palate cleanser, and a fresh start before this big blue marble looks like Mars.. I hate those trumpers, but, should they have a reckoning, and beg forgiveness, and we agree to pull on the same rope for the next 25 years or so, until we get this muther back in shape, I could forgive and forget.
What choice do we really have?

(82,849 posts)We need to include administrations that traded arms for hostages and used the proceeds to fund terrorists. We need to be sure that the President who pardoned those criminals is included. We also shouldn't forget those who launched the longest wars in our nation's history under false pretenses, and squandered billions, if not trillions, of dollars on these invasions and occupations.
Once we've run those criminals down, let us vow not to overlook such war crimes and crimes against humanity ever again, and particularly not in the name of looking forward to the future or criminalizing political differences. It's not a political difference when one side is violating or subverting the Constitution; it's a crime against the nation.

(4,642 posts)I'm thinking a generation that never knew what a true Democracy was, who doesn't question corporate rule, or living from paycheck to paycheck, or dying in the streets because they are too old or sick to work.

(7,725 posts)We may have lived the true golden years of this the finest country in the known universe. I have to say, computers have made it all very easy for us to disengage from life around us. All in the name of supposed, better ways. Before I die, I'm going back to my landline, and a library size stack of books around me. I'd read them by candlelight if it would give the coming generations what we had.
You don't know what you've got, til it's gone. Sad fact is it was taken by folks who had so much already. And were greedy, and wanted it all. Only one person, by definition, can have it all. And the idea that don ivan thought that was his role...is sick making.

(31,261 posts)I am more concerned about the 63 million Americans, we are stuck with them, I wish we could get rid of them. What does a bonus to move to Russia for the 63 million sound? We can raise enough money to throw in their very own dacha. We will keep Trump and Pence, in prison.

We'd be in gulags...NO JOKE...I say that a lot about the gulags, but, those fuckers would have rounded everyone up who ever voted D and we'd be doing life w hard labor w guards gushing and joking about "Fucking Liberals" the rest of our born days.
