Trump Allies Say They Welcome Attempt to Impeach

August 16, 2018 at 7:10 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Politico: “There’s a new way of demonstrating loyalty to Donald Trump and his Republican Party: Claiming that the president could not only survive an impeachment effort, but that it would guarantee his victory in 2020.”

“The idea gaining currency on the right is that Trump can be Bill Clinton, not Richard Nixon. It depends on a delicate political calculation – that a Republican-held Senate would never follow a Democratic House and vote to remove Trump, and that voters tired of the long-running Russia scandal will, as they did in the late 1990s with Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky scandal, just want to move on.”

Democrats win back the House and impeach, but there's no way he's getting convicted in the Senate. Then, he'll spend the rest of his term boasting about how the "evil liberals" did everything they could to bring him down, but they failed, because all he does is win. It would make him appear invincible, so to speak.

It could be better in the long run to not try to impeach, and let Mueller's finding drown him in 2020.

Did they say, oh the Senate will never convict so let’s forget about it?

Hell no they didn’t and that was for a damn BJ!

Trump has committed so many actual high crimes and misdemeanors that it’s sickening.

If that traitor POS is not impeached for his many crimes, what president will ever again fear tha act of impeachment?

He was in his second term and Republicans didn't have to worry about him bouncing back from it because he was going to be gone anyway. Democrats in the Trump case have to think about whether or not impeaching Trump and not convicting him could make him more lethal in 2020.

I'd rather not go for impeachment and beat him in 2020 than impeach, not convict and be stuck with him until 2024.

The signal it will send though will be, do any damn thing you want as President, no one will touch you.

Some future GOP demagogue will take that fact and run with it. You can count on that.

And post Trump the only republicans getting elected will be clones of the crime boss racist-in-chief looking for trouble.

Trump has exposed the fatal flaw in our system of government. The founding fathers never conceived of an entire party willing to sell this country out to the highest bidder, Russia in this case. Or one that would conspire with foreign powers with the same ideology.

The damn republican party has crossed the Rubicon, there's no turning back after the Trump shit show, there will be more lawless republicans stepping up to the plate after Shitler is long gone.

And they will have no fear of impeachment either.

Even if you hope that Trump isn't who he seems to be (colluding traitor). Okay. Then wait for the evidence.

This gamesmanship is itself a kind of treason
