Well, we're entering the old age of a country, like how Europe and China have seen-it-all over centuries, how Italians stay focused on their neighborhood block, groceries and cooking and not caring about national/global stuff.
The Romans' bread/circuses was about: You little people, don't worry your pretty little heads about affairs of state, leave that to the main players, just munch on your bread and go to the Super Bowl.
