Senate Republicans Promise There Will Be Time To Review Kavanaugh Writings When They Become Law

WASHINGTON—Denying that any attempt had been made to withhold information relevant to the Supreme Court confirmation process, Senate Republicans promised Wednesday there would be plenty of time to review Brett Kavanaugh’s writings once they had become the law of the land.

“We’ll have an opportunity to thoroughly vet Judge Kavanaugh’s beliefs as soon as they are established precedent and a permanent part of our nation’s legal framework,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, explaining there was no need for anyone to read Kavanaugh’s thoughts on the environment or immigration since they would be readily available to the public once he sat on the Supreme Court and began issuing opinions.

“The Democrats will have decades to closely analyze Judge Kavanaugh’s views on issues such as labor unions, gerrymandering, and executive power. Why should they read a million documents from his time in the George W. Bush administration when they will be able to find out most of what they need to know just by reading his majority opinion striking down Roe v. Wade?”

McConnell added that Democratic criticism of Trump’s nominee represented the “same old obstructionist tactics” that in 2032 the Supreme Court will rule is legally punishable by death.

the campaigns of any Democrats who vote for him. No money. No official volunteers.

I realize this would be nearly impossible if possible at all, but we need to stop the Kavanaugh confirmation.

Even "enforcing" a no vote, we lose this one unless we can turn two Republicans. Until you show us who those two are going to be, it doesn't make a bit of difference whether we lose by one vote or five. He's going to be on the court.

Now consider someone like Senator McCaskill. She's essentially tied or slightly behind in all of the recent polls that I've seen. A "no" vote on Kavanaugh (absent some skeleton jumping out of his closet in the next few weeks) seals her fate...

... and we almost certainly can't win the Senate back if we lost her. Which doesn't just mean a couple dozen additional appellate court slots... if another SCOTUS slot opens up we can't stop that one either.

and they determine he has lied he will be impeached and does he understand that and accept this as the terms of his confirmation. Since his approval seems imminent, this seems like our only recourse. Of course, it's necessary to delay and fight the nomination.
