Normal presidencies--even bad ones--do not engage in personal vendettas and enemy listing of people who simply have expressed their opinions.
This is the mindset of a wannabe dictator, plain and simple.

We need to neuter him this fall by taking at least the House.

At least I hope he doesn't.
My biggest nightmare scenario is the SOTU speech, when literally everyone -- both houses of Congress, all the SCOTUS justices, the secretaries of the Cabinets, the Joint Chiefs, and the FLOTUS -- are tightly gathered in one room. Eliminate that room while Donnie Two Scoops' motorcade is just leaving the WH (he's late, as always, because making people wait is a big "fuck you" ) and "poof!" everyone who is standing in the way of him and absolute power and happiness is gone.
Of course, journalists -- the enemy of the people -- would have to be rounded up and stuck in the cages the children once occupied, and pollsters would be taken out and shot. There will be only one official state pollster, and the results will always show 100% approval.
That will only happen once he gets tired of picking off his "enemies" one by one. He's like a drug addict -- every time he wants to feel better he either goes to a rally or fires someone. If he found some way to get rid of Sessions, Rosenstein and Mueller on the same day -- and I figure Kavanaugh and the Supremes figure in there somewhere, with a little help from Roger Stone, who's appealing his subpoena on the basis the Mueller investigation is unconstitutional --he'll orgasm with joy. He'll repaint Air Force One with his garish colors and name, hold one of his "IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!" parades once a month, each bigger than the one before, and force all the world -- with the exception of Putin, of course -- to bow at his feet.
I'm old enough -- over two-years-old -- to remember when our political process made sense, the U.S. was respected at home and abroad, and we didn't have an insane narcissist in the Oval Office.

(7,432 posts)Lots of money is made in a fascist dictatorship. Major sources of capital have already lined up, waiting for a suspension of the Constitution. They presently are the businesses and people with whom Trumpy talks at night before his tweet rants.
Of course I dont know the above for certain, but it DOES fit with the logic of the situation. Trumpy knows filthy rich opportunists. He considers them his friends. He will reward them with more unimagined riches if they stick with him. He rewards wealthy people who support him.

(6,831 posts)Who once commented that he had "disposed" of more people than Hitler did. And without a scintilla of remorse.
I think trmp resembles Stalin more than Putin or Hitler. Remember that Stalin was NOT Russian, he was Georgian. He did not speak Russian at all fluently and he was widely mocked for that. He despised the power brokers because they never accepted him as a peer or respected him as a leader, in much the same way that Washington (and the high society of NYC before) have never accepted trump as an equal, much less a better.

(14,574 posts)I started off by asking why a space force is better for me and my family than healthcare, or the $40 million in federal monies we still lack for an important highway widening project.
Then I mentioned the revocation of Bannon's security clearance and said I thought it was a last ditch attempt at obstructing justice by a traitor. I then went on to tell the staffer that I know how easy it is for people inside the beltway to get out of touch, but I let him know that among my many contacts, even the staunch Republicans are disgusted by Trump.
I told the staffer that people out here in reality are seething, because Trump has ignored the emoluments clause, and his administration doesn't even try to hide its utter corruption. It has disgusted and driven away most decent people.
I then said that the only people who still like Trump are the slathering white nationalist nazis, and they don't represent us. They don't represent our America. That isn't us.
Finally, I wound up with a short critique of the giant tax cut for billionaires and corporations and how that didn't help either of my children, who work for publicly held companies because CEOs upheld their fiduciary responsibility and bought back shares, which is the best thing for shareholders. But how does that help me or my children?
I said it would be wise for this Senator and other sane members of the Republican party to do more to hold Trump in check, and I mentioned he is lucky he's not up for reelection this year, because I said I expect a 'change of the guard' come November.
Not that it did much good, but I call his office every week to register my opinion about current events. Hope you all do also. And...fuck the rules...don't bother being brief. We're being attacked on a thousand fronts. Make your calls L A S T ! !
