(146,317 posts)on one party's side of the ballot. You can't mix primary votes among Democrats and Republicans.
However, you can choose either side, regardless of party affiliation.
So, it's a semi-open ballot.

(115,719 posts)lawn signs everywhere - but some people managed to remain clueless. I was at an event last night and was wearing one of those little red "I Voted" stickers (as were several other people). A young woman who was also a member of this group asked me what the sticker was for, was there some kind of election? My jaw dropped. This woman is probably in her mid '20s, college educated, seems intelligent, but she had no idea what was going on.
I said there was a major, important primary election, it was all over the papers and tv.
Oh, she said, I thought it was for a county sheriff or something; I didn't think there was a big election until 2020.
I explained that it was an election to decide who would be running for governor, Congress, two Senate seats and state attorney general, among other things, and it was a big enough deal to get national coverage. Oh, and there's a very important election this November.
She seemed very surprised. She said she didn't read newspapers.
