Wait, that was longer ago than 25 years, wasn't it? I do remember Betty Ford's courage -- women just would not talk about this before, and certainly not on national television.

I vaguely recall some TV show having a character with a breast cancer scare, but I'm not sure I correctly recall which one.

When LIFE magazine compiled their 100 Photographs That Changed the World it was included for jumpstarting the breast cancer awareness of movement.

It was incredibly courageous even as she considered it as art more than activism. You can google Beauty out of Damage if you can’t access NYT.
